Alessandro Sferlazza
Ciao, I’m Alessandro! This is (going to be) my website, where I share my research, an updated version of my CV and some unrelated extras.
I like algebra and cryptography, as well as other stuff.
I am a first-year PhD student in isogeny-based cryptography under the supervision of Lorenz Panny, within the Algebra research group at the Technical University of Munich.
My research interests
- Algorithmic number theory. I am passionate about algebra and its connections to algorithms, number theory, and geometry.
During my Master’s thesis, I worked on abelian varieties, and studied algorithms to compute their group laws, isogenies, pairings. - Post-quantum cryptography. My research currently focuses on the practical speed-up of certain protocols in isogeny-based cryptography - a branch of post-quantum cryptography based on the properties of isogeny graphs of elliptic curves - in particular via the use of isogenies between higher-dimensional abelian varieties.
As relevant side-interests I’d like to delve more into, I’d list cryptanalysis of isogeny-based protocols, and code-based cryptography.
Where I was before
I studied Mathematics at the University of Pisa, Italy (Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree) and I was part of Scuola Normale Superiore there.
In 2024, I studied cryptography at the MPRI master in Paris, and I was part of the GRACE team, where I worked on my master’s thesis under the supervision of Benjamin Smith and Davide Lombardo.
